The government and other people in positions of authority like prime minister David Cameron believes that the rioting is in no way connected to the police killing of Duggan. The Prime minister believes Duggan's death was " used as an excuse by opportunist thugs in gangs". There is no reason for the looting and violent out breaks in the cities. They do not believe that it has anything to do with the vast growing poverty, deprivation and police brutality faced daily by many working class youth. The people involved with the riots are now serving severe punishments. Nicolas Robinson a 23 year old collage student is now serving 6 months jail time for stealing a water bottle.
An artist Dan Thompson, started @riotcleanup on Twitter, tweeting "Lets try and show the shops and families that people care and clean up. This is not about pretending it didn't happen" The message spread fast and about 500 people showed up in the heart of communities around the uk with brooms and garbage bags ready to cleanup the mess that had been made hours earlier. Now a total of 18000 are following @riotcleanup. The people cleaning up believe that they are winning! The rioters will not get the best of them, they want to spread love and peace rather then aggression and hate.
